Stephan Bootz Bass

As a bass Stephan Bootz studied at the prestigious Academy of Music "Hanns Eisler" in Berlin with Wolfgang Hellmich and Thomas Quasthoff. He improved his technique in masterclasses with Horst Günther and Francisco Araiza and has been working with Karsten Mewes.

Already during his studies he was member of the International Opera Studio in Zurich in 2005-06, an he performed in Brandenburg, Cottbus, at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and at numerous festivals, including the Ruhr Triennale and the International Music Festival Martinù in Basel.

From 2009 to 2012, Stephan Bootz worked for Stadttheater Giessen as member of the ensemble, where he performed for example as Figaro|Le nozze di Figaro, Sarastro|Die Zauberflöte, Ossip|Der Revisor, Baron Zeta|Die lustige Witwe, Pfarrer|Der Besuch der alten Dame, Colline|La Bohème, Gessler and Melchthal|Guglielmo Tell as well as Tierbändiger and Athlet|Lulu.

In oratorio he sang, in addition to smaller pieces by Mozart, Gounod and Schubert, the main parts in Bach's oratories and as a bass soloist in Beethoven's 9th Symphony in the Gewandhaus Leipzig as well as in the Konzerthaus Berlin, where he also interpreted Mendelssohn's Elijah.

Bootz co-operated with many conductors, such as Yakov Kreizberg, Philippe Jordan and Gennady Rozhdestvensky, and he performed e.g. in Berlin, Hamburg, Leipzig, Vienna, Zurich, Basel and Barcelona. In New York's Carnegie Hall he followed a masterclass with Thomas Quasthoff.

Since 2012-13, Stephan Bootz has been member of to the State Theatre Darmstadt, where he performed for example as Bonze|Madame Butterfly, Padre Guardiano|La forza del destino, Fasolt|Das Rheingold and as Johann Friedrich Oberlin in the chamber opera Jakob Lenz. 2013-14 he will sing as Graf Rodolfo|La sonnambula and as Baron in the world premiere of Xavier Naidoo's musical Timm Thaler.
