Giuseppina Piunti Mezzo-Soprano

After completing her musical studies graduating in piano and singing, Giuseppina Piunti won various international competitions such as "Mario del Monaco" in Marsala, "A. Catalani" in Ostra and "III. International Singers Contest of Budapest".

In October 1995 she sang her first title role in the baroque opera Diana Schernita by Comacchioli at Teatro Ventidio Basso in Ascoli Piceno. During the following three seasons Piunti was the darling of the public at Wexford Festival in Ireland when performing the roles Lioyna|Sarka (Fiebich) and Monica|La Fiamma (Ottorino Respighi). With the same roles Giuseppina Piunti debuted as well at Teatro dell'Opera di Roma in 1998. Further significant debuts were 1998 in Wexford as Delia|Fosca (Gomes) as well as Mimì|La Bohème and Lauretta|Gianni Schicchi in Pisa and Cremona. In March 1997 she made her debut as Alice|Falstaff at Teatro Filarmonico in Verona where she sang together with Renato Bruson. Furthermore she sang Roggiero|Tancredi and in Signor Bruschino at Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, Saffo by Pacini at Teatro R. Valli in Reggio Emilia, she performed in Rigoletto, Madama Butterfly and in Die Fledermaus.

In Germany Giuseppina Piunti made her debut in January 2001 as Mimì at Staatstheater Wiesbaden, later on she debuted there as Amelia in a new production of Un Ballo in Maschera. As Odabella|Attila she debuted 2001 in Montpellier followed by new productions with the same role in Triest and Palermo. Henceforward she regularly performed in Triest at the International Operetta Festivals: in Orpheus in der Unterwelt, Gräfin Mariza and Paganini. Again one of the outstanding soloists Piunti was at Wexford Festival with the title role Sapho (Massenet), then she sang Desdemona in Detroit, Odabella in Lecce and Antonia at Rome Opera, Norma in Gießen, Nedda|Pagliacci in Trieste, Amelia|Simone Boccanegra together with Canadian Opera in Toronto, Musetta|La Bohème in Glyndebourne, Mimì in Karlsruhe and Carmen and Lucrezia Borgia in Gießen. 2005-06 she sang in Nancy for the first time, as Marchesa del Poggio|Un Giorno di Regno. 2006 she performed Giulietta|Les Contes d'Hoffmann in Karlsruhe, Elisabetta|Maria Stuarda and Bianca|Giuramento (Mercadante) in Gießen and Carmen in Salerno and Savona.

In 2007 she made her debut as Hanna Glawari at the Opera of Bari, she sang Carmen in Ravenna and was the protagonist of a world premiere in Savona, Rovigo, Italy and other further places in Italy. In 2008 she made her debut as Charlotte|Werther in Gießen, she sang Adalgisa|Norma in Bologna, and made her debut as Tigrana|Edgar in Turin.

In 2009 Piunti performed, amongst others, The composer|Ariadne auf Naxos in Liège, Santuzza|Cavalleria rusticana in Gießen, Carmen in Messina and Toulon, Adalgisa in Catania. In 2010 she performed for example Léonor de Guzman|La Favorite in Gießen, Desideria|The Saint of Bleecker Street in Marseille, and Tigrana in Bologna.

In 2011 Piunti gave her house debut as Lola|Cavalleria rusticana at the Milan Scala, and afterwards she returned to Gießen as Alba|Goya and to sing in Stabat Mater. Further engagements were for example at Monte Carlo opera as Elena|Mefistofele, in 2012 she sang in Rossini's Stabat Mater in Marseille, and performed Maria Tudor in Gießen.

2012-13 Piunti began as Lola in Naples, followed by engagements as Carmen in Marseille and Turin. In Gießen she performed the leading role Fosca and she sang as Lola in Taormina in summer 2013.

2013-14 for example Piunti returned to Milan's La Scala as Flora|La traviata, and she will sing as Isabella|La conquista di Granata again in Gießen.
